Perak MB, We Should Not Blame Kit Siang

Decision to appoint Pasir Panjang Assemblyperson from PAS, Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as a Perak Mentri Besar, has shocked for not only DAP leaders and members but also its supporters.

Do we still remember that the cooperation between the DAP and PAS in the Alternative Front (BA) in the general-election 1999 has caused the DAP lost its supporters? This is because the political belief of PAS is definitely opposite with DAP and its supporters, particularly to the religion-based political ideology’s call by PAS during that time. Therefore, if Kit Siang keeps silent and just accept the appointment of PAS member as the Perak Mentri Besar, certainly, certain people will take this opportunity to defame DAP reputation, especially for MCA and Gerakan, whereby, they will say one vote for DAP is equal to one vote for PAS and one vote for an Islamic state. This ever happened in the general-election 1999.

In the Kit Siang’s statement, he emphasized that the DAP is prepared to accept Perak DAP Chairman and Sitiawan state assemblyperson, Ngeh Koo Ham or PKR Behrang state assemblyperson, Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi as the Perak Mentri Besar. Apparently, DAP is not fighting for power, but is to deliver its party’s principle, that is, struggle for all races, whereby, the DAP and PKR are the multiracial and multi-religion political party but PAS is only for Muslim.

Besides, PAS only won 5 state seats while DAP won its all 18 state seats contested and PKR 7. Hence, is it relevant for PAS who represent the minority community to lead the Perak state?

According to the press statements by the Barisan Nasional’s leaders, they have twisted the Kit Siang’s statement. The Barisan Nasional’s leaders said that DAP is lighting up the racial fire and crazy in battle power.

Who crazy in battle power? If DAP really crazy in battle power, the DAP will has joined the Barisan Nasional in the early stage, in which, the Gerakan and PPP have done this. Both parties were a strong opposition parties, but due to crazy in battle power, they joined the Barisan Nasional in 1971. This proved that Gerakan and PPP do not have political stand. Also for PAS who ever joined Barisan Nasional in the general-election 1974. The DAP is the only one that has not ever join Barisan Nasional, they stand firm on their political belief based on the principle of democracy and justice, regardless of race and religion.

As a conclusion, Kit Siang is not lighting up the racial fire or crazy in battle power but it is for the sake of the party’s supporters because we all do not want the history in the general-election 1999 to repeat again.
