Under the UMNO-led ruling coalition, Sabah & Sarawak are seen as not recognized. This can be seen through the National Day’s Celebration every year. Whereby, we celebrating 31st August 1957 as our national day every year, but does the ‘Malaysia’ term exist in 1957? For 31st August 1957, there is only the Federation of Malaya gets independence from British but Sabah and Sarawak are still under colonization of British. Malaysia was only formed at 16th September 1963. And hence, 16th September should be the National Day as well as the public holiday of Malaysia.

Besides this, the Islamic state agenda of UMNO also has threatened the right of Sabah and Sarawak people. Whereby, the rights of such states people are written in the Federal Constitution and were an agreement between them and the government of Malaya under the Cobbold’s Commission, that is, no official religion in both states. But what UMNO did now is highly opposing the Cobbold’s Commission, Federal Constitution and the right of Sabah and Sarawak people, that is, to form an Islamic state Malaysia.

And further is about the development in Sabah and Sarawak. The government is obviously not interested in developing Sabah and Sarawak.

Sabah is currently the poorest state in Malaysia. Its average incomes are now among the lowest in Malaysia, and with a considerably higher cost of living than in West Malaysia. The state has the highest poverty level in the country at 16 per cent, more than three times the national average. Part of the problem is the inequitable distribution of wealth between the State and the Federal government. In 2004, the poverty level of Sabah has worsened to 22 per cent.

And for Sarawak, although it is a state that blessed with an abundance of natural resources where liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petroleum have provided the mainstay of the Malaysia federal government's economy for decades but the state has only get 5% of royalty from it.

With a highly marginalization of the UMNO-led government in Sabah and Sarawak, how could such states being the strongholds of Barisan Nasional in the 12th general-election?
